Starting a home-based business can be very time consuming. You have to research the market, develop a product and learn how to market the product. You’ll also have to learn some new skills. Even if you pick a niche you are familiar with, you will find some skill that you either have to learn or hire someone to do the work for you.
So where do you begin?
You could find a mentor or a coach to help you develop a product or build a business, but most are very costly. You can intern for someone to learn some skills. But if you are a stay-at-home mom, that would mean leaving the children. Besides, most of the secrets of the business will not be revealed to you.
However, there are a lot of good options. Actually, there are so many options that they can be overwhelming. I tried MLM, but that did not appeal to me. But multi-level marketing is a great way to make money if you are a people person and have a great sponsor to teach you.
Another business that works well is direct mail. You may think all that junk mail goes directly in the garbage, but if it did, do you think you would get so much of it? Of course this is a very competitive market because your mail piece has to be the one the person opens.
One that I like is internet marketing. If you are interested in internet marketing, there are several affiliate programs that you can join that will even provide a webpage for you. All you have to do is get people to go to your website.
What’s the best thing to sell?
The best thing to sell is information products. People on the internet are looking for information. Even though there is a lot of free information, they will pay for the information that they want. Selling information products is easier because you do not have to store inventory. The best part of selling information products is that they are cheap to reproduce even when the information is very valuable. So you make a much higher rate of return, unlike physical products.
Who should you sell to?
This depends on your niche. You want a niche that has a hot, hungry, target market. You want to sell them exactly what they already want. You want customers that are already conditioned to buy what you are selling, and can afford your product.
One good target market that is often overlooked are business owners. Selling to a business is often known as b2b or business to business selling. Business owners are a good target market because they are use to buying things for their business.
So if you don’t have the skills to set up websites, there are information products that you can sell offline. To get started quickly, you can license information products that you can sell. A good product to sell is one that provides you with everything that you need to get started, such as the product, instructions and sample advertisements.
