Set Yourself Reasonable Goals

Having goals not only gives us a great incentive but helps us to determine whether or not we are being successful in what we do. Goals give us a target to aim for when times are difficult and help us to keep the reasons we are striving to make our achievements in sight.

Although goals need to be set at such a level that we actually feel we have accomplished something, it is vital that they are also reasonable for us to achieve.

What Happens When We Set Goals Too High?

Milestones are usually represented by goals and one that takes us around a corner on our road to success fills us with confidence. For example, you may decide to set a goal of selling 1000 copies of your new ebook during the first month of it being on offer.

You will feel great if you reach this target and you will surely want to celebrate. However, if you do not do so well, you will feel deflated and disappointed in yourself.

Therefore, when setting your goals, it is important to give some thought to the chances of whether or not they can be met.

We may need a push to get started and a continuing incentive to keep at it, but if a goal has little or no chance of being reached, this will have an adverse affect.

How Do You Know If Your Goals Are Out of Reach?

Before setting the goal, use your experience to decide it’s feasibility. You may have other similar projects you could refer to, refreshing your mind as to what resulted previously. It can, however be less easy if you have no experience to draw on.

You will then have to use that of others by spending a little time checking out small business owners blogs on the internet where you may well find information on goals similar to your own.

This, of course, is not always a hundred percent relevant, as due to difference circumstances, what turned out well for others may not work so well for you.

Contributing factors need to be taken into consideration when setting your goals. Referring back to the ebook example, discovering details about conversion ratios would be of great use to you.

These numbers will enable you to make an estimation of how many sales you can realistically expect to achieve by use of your site traffic. From here you will be able to assess whether your target of 1000 ebook sales is realistic or maybe your expectations will need reviewing.

There is no need to feel discouragement if you find your goal has been set too high. Use the experience as a learning curve and bear in mind you may need to allow more time, do things differently, or even lower your standards, just a little in order to get the results you want.

Achieving a goal has a knock on effect, filling you with confidence to tackle the next challenge, so ensuring the goals are attainable at the time of setting the goals can only be putting you on the road to success.
