Door to Hell

Darvaz in Uzbekistan is often referred as “The Door to Hell” or “Fire Hole”. The story of this place dates back 35 years ago when geological experts were drilling for natural gas. The geologists unexpectedly found out a big underground cave and could not dare to get deep under the ground because the cavern was filled with gas. Then, they decided to light a fire to prevent the spread of poison gas. The fire surprisingly still burns already for 35 years without any pause and be visible every sunset.

In a plan in the southern Dutch town of Moerdijk, Netherlands, a major blaze and explosion happened on Jan. 5, 2011. The big explosion immediately sent a towering plume of thick smoke up into the air through a chemical storage and packing company. 150 firefighters and three airforce firefighting trucks were needed to control the situation.

The Blood Falls is a part of the Taylor Glacier in Antarctica’s McMurdo Dry Valley. The remarkable feature of this waterfall is blood – red water pouring continuously. While some people suppose red algae as the main reason, others blame for the extreme conditions.

Serra da Leba, Angola

Serra da Leba is the landmark of Angola for many decades. However, evening shot of Huila’s Serra da Leba road is impossible because of the frog at an altitude of 1,800 meters. It takes a car a few minutes to go up and down the road for this awesome shot. When two cars travel in a different direction, the problem is addressed.

Fort Zverev

Fort Zverev was built in the 1870s by engineer Konstantin Zverev as a basement area for Russian. The basement got fire and reached the temperatures of over 2000°С, which created artificial cave of dripping brick stalactites, machine guns and bunkers in ruin.
