Here’s the most most profitable, ethical and proven way to enter the email marketing arena. First of all begin by building your email list.
1: Create something of value your prospects will be interested in e.g. a free report, free software etc. and give it away on your site in return for your visitors name and email address.
2: Set-up an auto-responder in to which the name and email address of everyone signing up at your site will be entered. Create a sequence of emails to be delivered automatically to your prospects over a period of days once they’ve signed up.
The emails should offer value, focus on creating a relationship and building trust with your prospects. Your auto-responder should be set to deliver 5-7 emails over a period of 10 days or thereabouts. Your goal here is to create a relationship but avoid bombarding your prospect with emails on consecutive days.
Above all DON’T try to sell anything in these emails. That comes later.
3: Drive traffic to your site. Through link building, article marketing, social bookmarking, forum posting, press releases etc. etc.
4: Measure results, tweak your offer; change it or add more value depending on the results.

Once you’ve tweaked the offer to the point of maximum conversion or a good conversion
at least, then find other people in your market that may already have an email list. These people will have a relationship with their own list that you can leverage to build your list further.
Approach them with information about your report, provide them with a free copy of it even, and ask them if they would be interested in promoting it to their list via an email. Offer to write the email for them. You want to remove as many barriers as possible that may prevent them from wanting to send that email for you.
Emphasize to them that that they will gain further trust and credibility with their own list by providing it with good, relevant and valuable information in the form of a link to your free report, software etc.
You will then hopefully get to tap into their targeted list and build your own list further in the process. The visitor sign-up rate should also be much higher as these visitors have arrived at your site via a recommendation rather than a search result.
Move on to finding others in your market through which you can further build your list through promotions to there list and repeat ad infinitum.
As your list grows you should continue to email to them information of value and work on building that all important relationship.
Before long you will have a targeted list of thousands that are interested in your market and what you have to offer. You will be able to promote to them any time that you have an offer and because you’ve made the extra effort to build a relationship you will have earned more trust. As a result you will achieve more sales each time you send them an offer.
Why SPAM Doesn’t Work
For one most obviously it’s illegal in most countries, it hogs bandwidth across the Net and it clogs up peoples inboxes. It’s a common irritant that people across the Net have to deal with everyday.
A SPAM email is received unsolicited, mostly untargeted, there is nearly always no relationship with the recipient and as a result they are more likely to be offended by it. That doesn’t make for any kind of foundation on which to build a relationship or make a sale.
Long-Term Email Marketing Success
If you build a list ethically as laid out above everyone on that list has chosen to be there because they’re interested in your market, which means they’re interested in receiving your emails and so much closer to becoming a customer/client as a result.
They’re also much more likely to stay on your list and be there to receive an email every time you have an offer. It’s very simple building a relationship and trust are the key to long-term prosperity through email marketing.
